GeekBuying Review: Is It A Legit Store or A Scam?

This blog is supported by sponsors.

Shopping online is by far the easiest and most convenient way to buy stuff. But the thought of falling for a scam scares the crap out of me. You probably feel the same, and that's why you're going through several GeekBuying reviews to know how safe it is to shop at the online store.

Well, we have everything you need to know, including the good, the bad and the ugly about GeekBuying. So, let’s get into it, shall we?

What is GeekBuying?

GeekBuying found at GeekBuying.com is an online reseller of all sorts of household and electronic gadgets including smartphones and tablets, wearable devices, computers, car accessories and hobby toys. According to their ‘About Us’ page GeekBuying is headquartered in Shenzhen, China. The company has been around since 2009, although we couldn’t find information about the person(s) behind the website.

GeekBuying Prices

We all know Chinese products are cheap to say the least. But here’s how much stuff costs on the site at the time of this review.

Smartphones from brands like Xiaomi, Huawei, Chuwi and Philips go for anywhere between $50 and $300, while wearable devices like smart watches and smart bracelets go for as low as $1. Tablet PCs both Microsoft and Android sell for $200 on average. iPhones and Samsung phones start at $100. You can find Samsung accessories and iPhone accessories such as earphones, USB cables and such for as low as $3.

Consumer electronics including headphones, speakers, projectors, VR headsets and TV boxes go for anywhere between $5 and $100. Car accessories like DVD players, lights, GPS trackers, parking sensors, quick car chargers and alarm systems sell for $50 at the very least.

Sports gear and outdoor accessories including camping supplies, portable electric bikes, survival gear and sports equipment go for anywhere between $10 and $200. Things like GoPro accessories, surveillance cameras, sunglasses, headlamps and water sports equipment sell for $20 give or take.

Kitchenware, bathroom supplies, gardening tools and other home improvement items start at $5 to their hundreds. Most of these household items are things like LED décor lamps, robot vacuum cleaners, multi-functional food slicers, toothpaste dispensers, smart air purifiers and the like.

Men’s clothing and Women’s clothing, bags, shoes, jewelry, kids’ clothing and fashion accessories go for $50 on average, with prices going as low as $2.

GeekBuying Payment Options

You can use either of the following payment options

  • PayPal Credit

  • OXXO (for Mexican residents)
  • Western Union

GeekBuying Shipping

GeekBuying ships worldwide for free if you use standard shipping. But these guys don’t say off the bat how much expedited and rush shipping costs, you’ll find out while checking out. Either way, standard shipping takes 10-30 days while express shipping takes 3-5 days or longer depending on where you are ordering from

Sounds too long a wait? You have the option of shopping on Amazon.com where you get FREE Guaranteed 1-2 day Amazon Prime Delivery.

They also say they have warehouses in Italy, Germany and Thailand. But most of these items are shipped from China and Hong Kong via either EMS, or DHL or TNT.

GeekBuying Refund & Return Policy

You are probably wondering how safe your money is if things don’t go as planned. Well GeekBuying will refund you full price excluding shipping if the item was dead on arrival or broke down within the first month of use. If you just don’t like the item you have two days to ask for a refund or replacement, no questions asked.

But you’ll have to first explain what the deal is with photos to back up your story, and once you ship the item back to them, you’ll get your money back. They say that may take between 48 hours and 14 days depending on the payment method you used. You can read all about that here.

GeekBuying Customer Service

If you want to reach out to customer service you can send them a text via Live Chat on the website Monday through Friday from 9:00-18:30 or 20:30-3:30 (GMT+8). You can also call them on +86-(0)755-23943772 Monday through Friday 9:00-18:30 (GMT+8). And finally you can email them on service_aftersale@geekbuying.com. They say you’ll get a word back within 48 hours.

GeekBuying Coupons or Promo Codes

There are all sorts of deals and offers on the website, but it’s no guarantee you’ll always land on one at any time. If you are all about saving money while shopping online, check out Amazon.com which has some of the best deals online. Rakuten.com is also a great place to get coupons and cash-back and on shopping. You can also visit Swagbucks.com which allows you to earn money and free gift cards that you can use to shop at GeekBuying or any other web store you prefer.

GeekBuying Complaints

I know this is the part of the review you’re most interested in. well, there are a couple of red flags about this company we thought you’re better off knowing about.

You get what you pay for

A good number of customers say the quality of products they sell are not anything close to what’s advertised. Chances are what you order, mostly electronics and smartphones may break down within the first year of purchase. The case applies no matter how cheap or expensive the thing was.

Awful customer service

GeekBuying customer service really needs to clean up its act. People are saying they take forever to get back to you, not within 48 hours as promised. Others claim its hard getting through to them via phone. Perhaps they can’t keep up with the mad volume, or they just don’t care what happens once they make the sale.

Slow shipping

You may have to wait for months to get your product, especially if there’s no GeekBuying warehouse in the country you’re ordering from. Actually a few customers say they never got their order at all. The general opinion is that just don’t expect to get your stuff within a few days of ordering.

But there’s always Amazon.com if you prefer fast shipments. You can use the FREE Guaranteed Amazon Prime Delivery and get your order in 1-2 days.

No BBB Profile

If you rely on the Better Business Bureau, GeekBuying doesn’t have a listing at the time of this review. Keep in mind they have been around for more than a decade.

GeekBuying Alternatives

After reading the complaints, I wouldn’t blame you if you decided against GeekBuying. If you just hate slow shipping you can always use Amazon’s FREE Guaranteed 1-2 Day Amazon Prime Delivery. You can also shop online using Swagbucks.com where you earn money and gift cards that you can use to shop anywhere you like, online or offline.

Is GeekBuying Safe?

Well it that seems to vary from customer to customer. Most customers shopped seamlessly on the website. However, the complaints about slow shipping, shoddy products and a lack of a BBB profile may give you pause.

If that's the case, I would recommend Amazon.com which is actually faster with the FREE Guaranteed 1-2 Day Amazon Prime Delivery and their customer service doesn’t suck. And if you like cash back and coupons, you’ll love what they have going on at Rakuten.com You can even earn real money while shopping, or basically doing the things you normally do online, like watching videos, playing games and visiting websites at SwagBucks.com. So that may be something to consider.

Anyway, that’s my two cents about GeekBuying. Feel free to chime in your thoughts on the comments section below. If you have any questions, you can visit their FAQs page here. If you like our GeekBuying review, you can check out more reviews on popular online stores here.
