DealExtreme Review: Ripoff or Safe Store?

This blog is supported by sponsors.

It’s always good to learn from people’s experiences when shopping online. You probably feel the same way, that's why you're going through some DealExtreme reviews to know whether it’s safe to shop at the online store. Well, be happy you’re here. I’ll save you some time by telling you the ugly truth about this store.

Unfortunately you won’t like most of it. But hey, don’t take my word for it, go ahead and ignore this DealExtreme review, I dare you!

What is DealExtreme?

DealExtreme found at www.DX.com is an online eCommerce store that sells consumer electronics and smart gadgets including hobby toys, computers, home appliances and accessories. The company was founded by internet entrepreneur Abel Lee in 2006. They are currently headquartered in Hong Kong.

DealExtreme Prices

DealExtreme claims to be the go-to store for all things cheap. But are they, really? Let’s take a look at a few examples.

Smartphones and tablets go for $200 on average, and their accessories barely cost $10. You can purchase laptops and office supplies for as little as $40. Car headlights, LED lamps and such like accessories go or anywhere between $5-$100. Cameras, electronics, TVs, etc sell for anywhere between $100 and $500. They are also huge on RC robot toys, quadcopters and other hobby electronics going for $50 a piece.

DealExtreme’s women’s and Men’s clothes range in prices between $5 and $100. Accessories and jewelry sell for anywhere from $1 to $50. The bestselling women’s shoes are priced at $20, give or take.

DealExtreme Refund & Return Policy

You are probably wondering what would happen if things don’t go as planned. They say if your product arrives damaged or is not working, you can contact customer service to file a complaint. If you reach out within 30 days, they’ll replace the item for free, and cover 60% of return shipping cost.

You just have to take photos and videos of the crap they sent, the packaging box and then in very kind words explain what’s wrong with the order. You can then either ask or a refund or exchange.

If you’re returning an item for an exchange, you have 14 days to do so. But you’ll have to pay for shipping both ways, unless it's their fault.

All you have to do is call customer service as soon as you realize you didn’t get what you expected. Then, you can start sending them the photos and video evidence to prove your case via email. But for intimates and swimwear, once you break any hygiene seal, consider the item yours to keep.

DealExtreme Shipping

DealExtreme claims they ship to almost every other country. They indicate the countries they deliver to on the website. Airmail shipping is free on most orders. But you’ll have to pay extra if you need faster shipping and the cost of which will vary.

Airmail takes 11-22 business days, expedited shipping takes 7-15 days to arrive, while exclusive shipping takes 9-20 business days. But you don’t have to wait that long when you shop on Amazon.com where you get FREE Guaranteed 1-2 day Amazon Prime Delivery.

DealExtreme Customer Service

If you have any issues, you can call DealExtreme at (+86) 0755-86002030-8016 Monday to Friday 09:00am-18:00pm (HK Time). You can also contact them via Facebook or write them up here.

DealExtreme Coupons or Promo Codes

There are all sorts of offers, coupon codes and discount banners littered all around the website. But hey, if you want to save the most money shopping online, check out Amazon.com and Rakuten.com which have some of the best deals online. You can also visit Swagbucks.com which allows you to earn money and free gift cards that you can use to shop at DealExtreme or any other online store you prefer.

DealExtreme Complaints

So we have gone through the logistics about this store. Now it’s time to read the complaints against DealExtreme. Unfortunately it’s pretty ugly.

You get what you pay for

Don’t be fooled by how photogenic the items you see on the website appear to be. We came across tons of complaints from customers about DealExtreme selling crappy items that stopped working after some time. The most vulnerable items include wearable devices, smart gadgets and computer accessories like USB flash drives and wireless keyboards.

Awful customer service

If something goes wrong and you need either a replacement or your money back, DealExtreme will refer you to the seller, and that’s the best case scenario according to customers. Cases involving defects, lost items, refund requests simply get ignored. But you don’t have to worry about that when you shop on Amazon.com.

Slow shipping

Apparently some customers had to wait longer than a few months to get what they bought. To make matters worse, there’s no guarantee when you’ll get it, given that several customers are still waiting for their orders.

But there’s always Amazon.com if you prefer fast shipments and reliable customer service. You can use the FREE Guaranteed Amazon Prime Delivery and get your order in 1-2 days.

No BBB Profile

It’s no surprise that they’re not listed with the Better Business Bureau, despite being around for more than a decade. That only goes to back up the complaints you’ve just read, if you live and die for the BBB.

DealExtreme Alternatives

There’s nothing funny about slow shipping, unreliable customer service and crappy items. So it’s always good to know you have options. You can always shop on Amazon.com and use the FREE Guaranteed 1-2 Day Amazon Prime Delivery. Again, you can save tons of cash when you shop through sites like Rakuten.com and Swagbucks.com.

Is DealExtreme Safe?

I probably wouldn’t shop at Deal Extreme. They just don’t sound completely safe to me given the complaints on their product quality and shipping issues. Customer service also seems to be all but reliable. But hey, if you’re okay with buying cheap stuff that may probably be dead on arrival, then definitely knock yourself out. But you’ll have to keep your fingers crossed that everything turns out ok at the very least.

In a nutshell, let me save you some time and money. You don’t have to gamble while shopping online. It’s always good to be sure your order and money is safe. I would recommend Amazon.com which is actually faster with the FREE Guaranteed 1-2 Day Amazon Prime Delivery and you can always reach out to customer service at any time if you’re not cool with what they sent.

Again, if you like saving tons of money or FREE cash for things you do online, you’ll love sites like Rakuten.com and Swagbucks.com. You can earn real money while shopping, or basically doing the things you normally do online, like watching videos, web search or listening to music.

Anyway, that’s my two cents about DealExtreme. Feel free to chime in your thoughts on the comments section below. If you have any questions, you can visit their FAQs page here.

Until next time
