They say an apple a day keeps the doctor away. Apparently so does the internet nowadays. Well if you’re here, you’re probably shopping for glasses online and checking out a couple of EyeBuyDirect reviews to know whether they are any good.
Well, we have the good, the bad and the ugly about this glasses company. So, let’s see if they're any good. Pun intended.
What Is EyeBuyDirect?
EyeBuyDirect found online at eyebuydirect.com sells prescription and non-prescription eyeglasses and sunglasses online. According to Wikipedia, EyeBuyDirect was founded by former venture capitalist Roy Hessel in 2005 and is currently headquartered in Austin, Texas.
What Types Of Glasses Does EyeBuyDirect Sell?
EyeBuyDirect sells men’s and women’s and kids’ prescription, non-prescription glasses and sunglasses. There offer a plethora of glasses, frames and accessories. They make the frames from acetate, wood, plastic, titanium and metal with a dozen and a half colors and literally hundreds of styles to choose from.
EyeBuyDirect Lens Options & Frame Selection
In general, you can choose from the following lenses:
- Optical lenses
- Digital screen protection lenses
- Prescription and non-prescription lenses
- Progressive/bifocal and non-progressive lenses
- Transitions lenses
While shopping around for a pair of eyeglasses and sunglasses you can either take their Fit & Size Eyewear quiz to find your perfect fit or use the search tool if you already know what you want.
For accuracy, they have a virtual try-on tool you can use to get the right frame size. Here’s how it works.
How Does The Virtual Try-On Work?
The EyeBuyDirect virtual try on tool allows you to see how a pair of frames will look on you before you buy it. You’ll basically upload a photo of you facing forward and upright. The software will then add the frames to your face and you can browse through frames while checking how they look on you. Once you find a frame you like you can add it to your wishlist and decide later whether you want to buy it or not.
How Do I Buy Prescription Glasses from EyeBuyDirect?
Unlike Warby Parker where they help you come up with a prescription, EyeBuyDirect requires you to have your most recent prescription with you while shopping. You’ll then fill out their prescription web form and they’ll give you the right lenses for you. You can use this guide to know how to read a prescription and apply it on the website.
Where Can I Buy EyeBuyDirect Glasses?
You can buy EyeBuyDirect glasses off their website. You can also buy their sunglasses and non-prescription eyeglasses on Amazon.com for better deals. But if you really want to save money buying things online, you may want to consider a site like Rakuten.com where you earn cash back and they have tons of coupons you can use. SwagBucks.com is another great place to start. They allow you to earn free gift cards and cash for things you already do online. You can use the cash or gift cards to save on EyeBuyDirect website or any store you shop at online or offline.
How Much Do EyeBuyDirect Glasses Cost?
EyeBuyDirect claims they are the cheaper solution to the best online glasses out there. But are they really? Let’s take a look at a few examples.
Frames go for as little as $6 and as high as $100 depending on the material you want, the shape, size, color and feature of the frame.
Lenses vary with the type of lens itself. For example, clear lenses start at $17 and go as high as $85 while digital lenses go for as little as $44 and as much as $80. Sun lenses cost as little as $5 and as much as $10, while light adjusting lenses cost anywhere between $36 and $99.

EyeBuyDirect Complaints
So far everything seems all clear, but there are a few red flags about EyeBuyDirect we thought you should know about.
“Customer Service May Not Be Helpful!”
Some customers claimed to be overcharged. So naturally they contact customer service. But apparently some EyeBuyDirect's rep would play hardball, making them jump through hoops just to get a refund.
“You Get What You Pay For”
Some of EyeBuyDirect's cheaper priced frames break easily and some are too flimsy for an active person. Some customers say you may have to replace the frames after a short while, and the warranty doesn’t cover accidents.
EyeBuyDirect Glasses Competitors
If you don’t like anything you’ve just read, you may want to look at other eyebuydirect alternatives such as Zenni, Warby Parker and Ambr float.
Should You Buy EyeBuyDirect Glasses Or Not?
EyeBuyDirect does sell affordable glasses online. They may not be the best online glasses company out there, but they more than compensate for that with the price. Customers say the lenses are ultra-cheap and the frames are stylish and sturdy.

EyeBuyDirect Glasses Review
Summary
If you buy your glasses online, you've probably heard of EyeBuyDirect. But are they the real deal or just a scam? Read along and find out!
Beware of incorrect lens type
The lenses were supposed to be polycarbonate per the order confirmation. Turns out they were not. I fell and one of the lenses shattered. Required major surgery to my face to remove the lodged pieces and repair the muscle and nerve damage below the eye. Over $25,000 in medical bills. Expert examination of the lens showed that it was an acrylic and not polycarbonate. Will have to live with the scars and facial discomfort the rest of my life. If you purchased glasses with polycarbonate lenses from EyeBuyDirect I highly recommend that you have them verified by an optometrist.

Whoa!
That’s really bad news! I’m not one to advocate a lawsuit, but this does indeed make me think you have a case. I’m not a lawyer, btw.
