SearchRX, Inc was acquired by healthcare benefits company Optum, Inc and rebranded to Optum Perks in mid February, 2020. Up until the takeover, the company was under the management of founder Joshua Pirestani since 2011. 

How Does SearchRX Work?

To use SearchRX, you can either download the app or visit their website SearchRX.com and use the search tool to look up your medicine. They’ll show you the lowest price available in nearby pharmacies and links to prescription discount coupons. You can then either print, email or receive a text with the discount card or coupon that you’ll present to your pharmacist at checkout.

Mobile App – You can download the free-to-use app and search for discounts on the go. The app uses geolocation to narrow down your search even further, so you may get better results while using the app compared to desktop. It’s available on both Android and iOS. 

Pill Identifier – Besides showing discounts and coupons in pharmacies nearby, the search tool also displays additional information including Description, Uses, Forms & Dosing and Warnings. 

How Much Does SearchRX Cost?

The SearchRX service including the app is totally free to use. You also don’t need to register to use the service.

It’s free to use – It's great that you can use the service for free and get up to 75% off your prescription medicine even if you have insurance. Some users also say you can get much cheaper offers compared to other similar services. 

SearchRX Complaints

As you probably already know, there’s always a catch when it comes to services such as SearchRX. So read the complaints against the company and decide whether the tool is worth using. 

“Misses far too many drugs”

Some users have complained that the app misses the most common drugs even when you search by brand name, generic name, and other names. It would appear that sites such as National Drug Card and GoodRX are doing better in terms of the number of drugs in their database.

Prices are way higher than other apps

According to some users, compared to similar services, SearchRX offers the least attractive discounts. Some say you may even get a higher price on the app than the pharmacy’s retail price. 

You can’t use the card together with your insurance

Like all services like this you can’t use it with your insurance. You have to either use this discount service or your insurance. So you may want to confirm which option is cheaper with your pharmacist.

Pets Not Included

So Is SearchRX For Real?

SearchRX does work and you can definitely save some money on your prescription drugs using their service. However, there are numerous complaints implying that the card’s prices are way higher than its competition and common drugs are missing from their catalog. So using the app may be bittersweet depending on what you’ll find on offer.
